If you have read very many of these little reviews then it should be apparent that I love patchouli. I like the warm, earthy, sometimes oily and woody scent that a good patchouli has. So after having burned approximately half the output of the worlds patchouli incense in a quest to find just the right one, I consider myself to be very familiar with all of its myriad variations in scent.
I drive my girlfriend a bit crazy sometimes with my patchouli addiction. Like sandalwood, patchouli is a perfect classic scent. Warm, earthy, slightly spicy and earthy. She isn’t a fan of most patchouli offerings with the exception of Satya’s Patchouli Forest. However, all of that changed with one sniff of Morning Star’s Patchouli.
Let me start by saying that I love the smell of patchouli. A good patchouli is warm, earthy, slightly musky and rich. A bad patchouli has sharp notes, is overly perfume-like or on occasion, bitter. Genieco has knocked my socks off in the past with their Extra Rich Sandalwood.

Since beginning this site I have noticed several searches with the keywords “hippie incense” as though people are searching for incense that is linked inextricably somehow with Hippies. Sandalwood refers to several aromatic woods, including Indian Sandalwood and Australian Sandalwood. Its fragrance provides a wood base note to many perfumes. Sandalwood smells similar to other wood scents, but it has a bright, fresh edge. Sandalwood oil is widely used by the cosmetics industry, and it is very expensive.
Satya Patchouli Forest is from the Oriental Series by Shrinivas Sughandalay. I have to say that of the series that includes Celestial, Midnight, Sandalwood and Sunrise, this scent is the clear winner and my personal favorite. All of the Oriental Series are built on a base of sandalwood and vanilla and in this case the base components blend wonderfully well with the patchouli and other ingredients.
