Hem Precious Lavender Incense Review

Hem Precious Lavender Incense Review

So I have finished my review can of “Superliminal Purple Stuff” (in a purple can) I am thinking this is a good time to review an excellent effort by The Hem Corporation.  I am speaking of Hem Precious Lavender of course if you did not infer that from the purple can parenthetical aside.  Ordinarily I am not a fan of charcoal incense sticks or cones.  It seems to me that without exception they all have a funky note because of the charcoal that distracts me from a good scent.  The last Hem I reviewed was guilty of this and I wasn’t expecting a lot from Precious Lavender even though it is one of the most popular sticks from the Hem incense line.

So I was pleasantly surprised to find that the stick is quite good actually.  Fresh from the box it is strongly scented of lavender.  So strong in fact it would make a good addition to a lavender based potpourri.  It isn’t perfect though because it has a perfume-y note that real lavender lacks.  It isn’t unpleasant though and I think that maybe later I will put a couple of sticks beside the bed when I lie down to sleep.

When burning the scent remains pleasant and very much like lavender.  Except it isn’t as “clean” smelling as some other manufacturers lavender incense offerings.  It has a slightly thicker, earthier smell that I could almost swear was a touch of patchouli lurking in there somewhere.  Again, that could be from the charcoal and not an actual ingredient.  The most difficult thing about using and reviewing most incense is the lack of an ingredients list.  Even diligent web searching often fails to turn up anything useful or relevant.

So I will stand by initial impression that this is a good, although not great, lavender scented stick that smells a bit warmer and earthier than it actually should.  This could be very appealing to some people though.  Especially ones who find lavender a bit too clean and floral and prefer their scents a little warmer.
