Gonesh No. 8 Spring Mist Review

Gonesh No. 8 Spring Mist Review

The first impression I had when removing this stick from the package was “sweet”.  Not “sweet” like in being presented with a Martin D-30 as a surprise gift, but “sweet” as in incredibly floral.  Sometimes it drives me to distraction that you have to guess at the ingredients in Genieco’s Gonesh incense sticks.  The description of scent is highly personal and subjective and when I describe something as like being mugged by the flower arrangements at a funeral, others might describe as lying peacefully in a field of flowers like Opus the penguin.

So, I left the stick out of the packaging while I wrote the above paragraph and the scent settled down a bit and now it seems less aggressively sweet and cloying.  I think in a way this is a good thing for a couple of reasons.  One, with Gonesh you can be pretty sure the product is fresh thanks to the heat sealed inner bags inside the cardboard package.  Otherwise the scent would disperse pretty quickly it would seem and two you know that there is plenty of fragrance oils used.  Gonesh doesn’t seem to be stingy in the slightest with them.

Now, the stick has “breathed” for a few minutes and the scent is much more pleasant.  I can actually imagine the scent of rain during a thunderstorm in there.  If that is what they had in mind, then it works reasonably well.  If not, then it is my fault for so readily assigning scents to memories.  Thunderstorm, October, Cold Rain and Flowers.  Pretty much sums the unlit stick up.

Lit, the stick loses some of the few crisp notes and slides back into sweetly floral.  To be fair I will tell you that I am not a fan of floral scents and I am especially not a fan of sweet floral scents.  This stick has plenty of both and that leaves me with the problem of trying to fairly review something that I do not particularly care for at this point.  If you like sweet, floral, rich and somewhat mysterious notes, you will love this.  If you dislike any of those things then I don’t think this would be the incense for you.
