Aloe

Aloe

Before you run out and light your aloe vera plant you have on your windowsill on fire, be advised that this aloe (aloe ferox) is a different plant. It is also a part of the Asphodelaceae family and it can also be used in the same way as aloe vera for cuts, wounds, and burns as well as constipation and indigestion. The big difference is the wonderful smell that Aloe ferox gives when burned.

The scent is fruity, sweet, a little heavy and very warm. A good analogue scent would be that of ripe plums. Small blisters will form when you expose aloe to heat and those blisters will expel a truly wonderful fragrance in smoke.

You can use aloe in combination with other incense ingredients to give the mixture a warm and very pleasant background. It is a relaxing, calming and very comforting fragrance and one that you should go out of your way to experience.

It is known as:

Aloe
Aloe ferox miller
Aloe barbadensis miller

You can probably find it at a good tropical or exotic plant dealer and it requires dry, tropical areas, sandy, loamy soils with full sun and moderate watering.
